GO Gone

One of my favorite CBC Radio programs, “GO!”, is ending this year.

Favorite episode was Lister Sinclair‘s discourse on disco:

“It’s New Year’s Eve, and what better way to celebrate than by getting funky with Lister Sinclair?  Lister was the cultured and erudite host of Ideas for sixteen years, one of the most loved CBC radio personalities of all time. He was even named an Officer of the Order of Canada.  And yet, despite his many honours, he wasn’t above experimenting and having a little fun. Pedro Mendes presents Lister Sinclair and the Masterpieces of Disco on CBC Radio One.”

Basically, it’s a walk through the meaning and context of different 1970s disco songs, which would be only mildly entertaining if it wasn’t hosted by Orville Redenbacher.  The set list:

You Should Be Dancing – Bee Gees
Boogie Woogie Dancin’ Shoes – Claudja Barry
Boogie Oogie Oogie – A Taste of Honey
Kung Fu Fighting – Carl Douglas
From NY to LA – Patsy Gallant
Come To Me – France Joli
Bad Girls – Donna Summer
Get Down On It – Kool and the Gang
I’m Your Boogie Man – KC and the Sunshine Band
Rasputin – Boney M
Your Love – Lime
Tattoo Man – Denise McCann
Wow – Andre Gagnon
You Sexy Thing – Hot Chocolate
The Hustle – Van McCoy
Let Me Take You Dancing – Bryan Adams
Night on Disco Mountain – Mussorgsky (adapted by David Shire)
Disco Inferno – The Trammps

I’m trying to find a streaming link – will post when available.
